History of The Faroese Children’s Aid

In November 2006, Guðrún Margrét Pálsdóttir, Director of ABC Children’s Aid in Iceland, visited the Faroe Islands to present the work of ABC Children’s Aid. The purpose of her visit was to establish ABC Children’s Aid in the Faroe Islands. On Saturday, 25 November 2006, she organized an informational meeting at Miðlahúsið in Tórshavn.

Fifteen people attended the meeting, most of them from Klaksvík. The intention was to elect representatives to the board of ABC Faroe Islands at the meeting. However, as the attendance was not sufficiently broad, it was decided to postpone the formation of the board. Instead, an interim three-member committee was appointed and tasked with identifying potential board members from different parts of the country.

The following were elected to the interim committee: Rúna Sivertsen, Chair and founder, Karsten Hansen, and Hjørdis Háberg Petersen.
