About.
Faroese Children’s Aid was founded on December 11, 2006, following a request from ABC Children’s Aid in Iceland. Rúna Sivertsen took the initiative to establish the organization in the Faroe Islands and has served as Chairperson ever since.
The organization is governed by a five-member Board. All Board members serve on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration. Faroese Children’s Aid does not have an office in the Faroe Islands; all administrative work is carried out voluntarily from home.
Today, Faroese Children’s Aid supports approximately 500 children and young people across five countries: the Philippines, Liberia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Senegal.
We currently support:
Philippines: 79 children
Liberia: 160 children
Nigeria: 90 children
Pakistan: 89 children
Senegal: 82 children
Through sponsorships and donations, Faroese Children’s Aid helps provide access to education, food, medicine, emergency assistance, and other essential support. The monthly sponsorship cost for one child is DKK 250. In some cases, however, two sponsors may be needed to provide adequate support for one child.
One of the ongoing challenges for the organization is securing funding for operational expenses. While many donors understandably wish to support direct assistance to children, administration, coordination, transfers, reporting, and field visits are also essential parts of responsible aid work.
Field visits are an important part of our work. They help ensure accountability, strengthen cooperation with local partners, and verify that donated funds are being used appropriately and effectively. Representatives of Faroese Children’s Aid have visited all the countries in which the organization works.
In Nigeria, Faroese Children’s Aid has recently completed the construction of a school at a cost of approximately DKK 700,000. The project was made possible through a generous donation from an anonymous donor. The school currently serves children from grades 1 through 6. Our long-term goal is to expand the school to include grades 7 through 12, enabling the children to complete their secondary education. The expansion is expected to cost approximately DKK 1 million.
In addition to sponsorships and operational support, Faroese Children’s Aid raises funds through donation boxes placed throughout the Faroe Islands. We also organize raffles, concerts, and other fundraising activities.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Faroese Children’s Aid. We are deeply grateful for the trust, generosity, and commitment shown by our many loyal sponsors and supporters throughout the years.
Our work would not be possible without you.
